RHI seeks a dynamic, dedicated individual as its next Executive Director (ED). Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will be an experienced, visionary, and compassionate leader with the ability to advocate successfully and passionately on behalf of RHI and the Red Hook community in the public and private sectors. The ED will bring proven nonprofit management expertise and experience in community-based programs, youth development, advocacy/organizing, and/or other relevant disciplines. The ED must be a hands-on leader, strategic and analytic thinker, and problem solver who responds to challenges effectively with sound judgment, high integrity, and a sense of humor.
The ED must also demonstrate fundraising ability, a highly focused social justice lens, excellent communications and relationship-building skills, a deep belief in the power and potential of engaged communities, and the ability to provide a clear, inspirational vision for RHI’s next chapter. Ideal candidates will bring some connection to or knowledge of Red Hook and/or similarly marginalized communities.

Reporting to – and working closely as a partner with – the Executive Director (ED), the DD will be a seasoned leader and coach, with the ability to operate on strategic, managerial and hands-on levels and to help guide the organization across programmatic and administrative functions. This role is being created at RHI as part of the transition to support the organization’s new Executive Director.
The DD will bring proven nonprofit management expertise and experience in community-based programs, youth development, advocacy/organizing, finance, operations, and/or other relevant disciplines. The DD must have a keen attention to detail, the ability to delegate effectively, a proven track record in motivating and unifying teams, and have solid organizational, problem-solving, and clear decision-making skills. The DD will be comfortable with and committed to fostering the development of staff.

Clinical Social Worker/Counselor
For 18 years, Red Hook Initiative (RHI) has nurtured young people in Red Hook, Brooklyn, to be inspired, resilient and healthy, and to envision themselves as co-creators of their lives, community and society. Dozens of participants in RHI programs have returned to RHI as staff and have jump-started careers in youth development from there. A key component of our approach to youth development and community building lies in the integration of socio-emotional support. Social work values and holistic practices are essential.
The Clinical team and the interdisciplinary program serving the community of Red Hook. Currently, the clinical team with collaboration of administrative staff are building a healing justice focused social/emotional team. It is our vision to witness the community of Red Hook reach the maximum expression of their humanity. Red Hook is impacted by the pressures, stressors and violence of systematic oppression and trauma. We believe that it is everyone’s inherent human right to be treated with respect and dignity. It is our intention to support young people towards their emotional health and healing by providing social emotional therapeutic services in a non-clinical community-based setting. As such, the clinical counselor role plays a pivotal part in shaping counseling service delivery and embedding best practices in an innovative and impactful setting. We are looking for others who align with this vision with a variety of therapeutic skills and healing modalities to join us.

College Access Specialist
The College Access Specialist works across the Middle and High School programs to build and sustain a college-going culture and promotes awareness of the link between higher education and professional careers. There is a focus on supporting high school juniors and seniors who are participants in RHI’s Youth Leader program. The College Access Specialist works with juniors and seniors to co-create a “right-fit” college roadmap in support of participants’ post-secondary goals. This person provides comprehensive college-readiness support: informing and facilitating college-readiness programming and financial aid workshops; assisting with researching and applying for scholarships; engaging and coaching parents about the college application process; and cultivating and maintaining relationships with college admissions counselors. College Access Specialists will develop and lead an early college awareness program for 6th-8th graders.

College Retention Specialist
The College Retention Specialist supports young adults (18 to 24 years old) to achieve their educational goals beginning when they are in high school and are considering whether college is the right fit. Working closely with the Young Adult Program Manager, they develop, manage, and facilitate the College Scholars Program (CS) and provide educational advocacy. This position provides a creative, compassionate, persistent person with the opportunity to be a part of a strong network of critical support that helps Red Hook youth, many of whom are first-generation college students, focus on the path to a college graduation.
