Peer Health Educator and Leadership Program, Level 1
This is the first year of a four year program. In year one, PHEs are hired and trained throughout the year in reproductive health education. They then use this knowledge to teach workshops to young people in Red Hook and throughout Brooklyn. PHEs take on additional leadership roles like assisting with teaching programs at RHI. PHEs earn an hourly wage for 5 - 10 hours of work each week.
• Group: Tuesdays, Thursdays, 5:30 - 7:30pm. • Workshops: various times throughout the week.
REACH
"Reproductive Education, Access and Choices for Health" assists young people to obtain health insurance, medical appointments, gynecology appointments and offers 1:1 education and reproductive case management. Pregnancy testing is offered on a walk-in basis. The REACH program also provides educational workshops and classes for outside groups.

Young Mother's Empowerment Group
Teenage pregnancy is a serious issue in the Red Hook community. RHI created the YMEG in response to the needs of this population. This weekly group coaches young women in strategies to complete their education, secure employment, learn the skills needed to care for an infant, and provides case management around housing, legal issues and financial support. Young women are able to provide support for each other as they reach individual goals.
• Fridays 5:00 - 7:00pm; individual counseling during the week.
 Diabetes Health Educators Graduation
Healthy Families Brooklyn, Diabetes Health Educator Program
RHI has seven Community Health Educators on staff that provides one-on-one and group preventive health and management education to community residents. Diabetes screenings are offered throughout the year at various times. Food stamp and health insurance enrollment are offered, along with assistance in getting a medical appointment.

Red Hook HIV / AIDS Awareness Day
RHI spearheads a community-wide HIV education and testing event at multiple sites in Red Hook on a quarterly basis. These events correspond with National HIV Testing Day in June and World AIDS Day in December. We provide confidential, free testing in a safe and welcoming environment. Our Peer Health Educators provide workshops and teen-focused activities on HIV prevention throughout the year.

Nutrition/Fitness Programs
Winning Walkers uses a team approach to fitness. Adults and children walk as a group within the community, and eventually take longer walks into Brooklyn. The fitness portion of this activity is complimented with nutrition education and personal goal setting around health.

Cookshop (Cooking Club)
Our Community Health Educators and Peer Health Educators teach new and exciting ways to cook vegetables. This class teaches nutrition basics as well.
