Our center continues to be one of the hurricane relief headquarters in Red Hook. Hundreds of people are coming through the doors daily– some to receive a hot meal, medical attention, legal advice, or to get needed supplies. Others are willing volunteers from every corner of NYC (and beyond!) who serve food at RHI, help businesses clean up from the disaster, or help distribute food and supplies in the Red Hook Houses. The power remains off in many buildings. Of those that do have power, very few have heat or hot water. It has now been a week and the situation is feeling more dire. The business community is still largely without power and are still pumping water out and beginning the slow climb to rebuild. For those who want to help, here is the plan for today:Volunteers

Yesterday, we launched a new website in an effort to keep people more up-to-date. We’re still fine tuning, but it will give a sense of the work:
www.rhicenter.org. It will have information updated throughout the day about what’s happening. For more information, please follow us on Twitter or Like us on Facebook.
We apologize if we are not able to respond to every email or phone call. The response has been immense and our staff are working around the clock to keep up with all of the support. We’ll do our best to reply as quickly as we are able. We thank you for caring about our community.
